Ben Tailor has been working on Okemo Valley houses since 1997. He knows why a Belmont farmhouse bangs when the heat kicks on and why a Ludlow condo freezes on a Wednesday in January when nobody is there. That kind of knowledge does not come from a dispatcher three states away. It comes from 29 winters of crawlspaces and mechanical rooms along Route 103.

You turn on the kitchen faucet on a single-digit morning and nothing comes out. We thaw the line, repair anything that burst, then fix the reason it froze so that morning does not come back. Better still, we tune furnaces and boilers in the fall so the worst calls never have to happen. Call in October and the work is cheap and scheduled. Call in February and it is neither, but we will still be there.

We tune and repair furnaces and boilers before the season, answer the no-heat calls when winter wins anyway, and install and service ductless mini splits, which heat as well as cool. No central air, no duct work.
